Job Summary
The Department of Pathology is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of Allied Health Associate Supervisor at the Canton Health Center. The position includes overseeing and managing daily operations of the blood draw stations including specimen procurement, specimen storage and handling, laboratory computer data entry programs and POC laboratory analysis, maintaining a smooth customer service orientated laboratory operation and covering staff shortages for the group.

Responsibilities*
Customer Service: Provide total customer focus to meet the needs of every customer, internal and external, medical staff, laboratory staff, patients and families. Provide service recovery for those situations warranting intervention. Respond quickly and act professionally and appropriately in stressful situations.
Specimen Collection: Perform adult, pediatric, and newborn phlebotomy. Obtain blood specimens from patients with alternate venous access devices. Serve as a resource for questions regarding specimen collection or handling.
Specimen Handling: Transport, label, centrifuge, aliquot, distribute, store, and prepare laboratory specimens for testing within Pathology Department and reference laboratories. Investigate problems reported by Central Distribution or UMHS laboratories and if possible, determine the necessary course of action.
Computer Data Entry : Enter laboratory test orders and results into the Laboratory Information System. Investigate and correct any order or result entry errors.
Test Analysis : Perform laboratory analysis and quality control. Perform and record quality control on test kits and devices upon arrival according to established procedure
Safety : Comply with safety policy instructions and observe safe work practices. Serve as a resource for safety related situations. Implement new or changed safety policies.
Communication and Teamwork : Use effective communication including written, verbal and information technology skills. Work effectively with others to accomplish goals. Serve as a point person for items communicated by supervisor or manager. Act as a liaison for communication concerns or problems.
Leadership : Model professional behaviors. Serve as a resource for all medical staff.
- Assist in coordinating employee work schedules, establish work priorities
- Assist and monitor daily work activity
- Receive sick calls and assure proper staffing in the absence of Supervisor
- Investigate and respond to inquiries and complaints from patients or clinical staff
- Problem solve and communicate resolution to staff
- Participate in the ongoing development and evaluation of staff performance
- Monitor and assure laboratory Quality Control is performed to meet regulatory accrediting guidelines
- Maintain inventory
- Participate in meetings with Supervisor and other Associate Supervisors
Functional Assistance :
Assist with special projects, in-services, evaluating new equipment and techniques, and other additional assigned responsibilities.
Training :
Provide orientation and training of all new employees, assisting in developing expertise in problem solving and finding resources for information.
