Overview:
Under the direction of the Construction and Development Controller, the Senior Construction and Development Accountant is responsible for developing a strong understanding of private equity fund structures, funding structures, pre-development, development, and construction operations, and ensuring execution of the day-to-day accounting functions as required. The ideal candidate will be intellectually curious and bring an analytical mindset to forecasting, preparing, and analyzing, as well as, preparing and reviewing reconciliations, journal entries, and various cash flow analyses.
This position will work directly with the investments, development, asset management, and construction teams along with other divisions. The ideal candidate will be ambitious and want to learn and understand the development cycles and flow of funds for various projects, fund, and joint venture structures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
-Develop a strong understanding of construction and development accounting with an emphasis on job costing.
-Possess strong general ledger and reconciliation skills and serve as the primary contact and provide expert matter advice to various team members.
-Responsible for interpreting, implementing, and administering accounting systems, policies, and procedures.
-Prepare and complete financial statements, and bank reconciliations accurately and on a timely basis; analyze data, draw conclusions, recommend changes, prepare and review necessary journal entries.
-Reconcile general ledger accounts, including (but not limited to) bank reconciliations, capital accounts, and intercompany accounts to determine any errors in an account balance and address all discrepancies.
-Prepare and process journal entries accurately and timely.
-Confirm banking information with vendors and escrow agents to initiate wires and ACHs.
-Review AP registers and approve vendor payments.
-Prepare and submit monthly draw packages to lenders and equity partners.
-Assist with business and general contractor license compliance and renewals.
-Work directly with external audit and tax teams on any required deliverables.
-Prepare monthly uploads of data from Sage to RealPage.
-Upload monthly billings into Sage.
-Handle ad-hoc projects and other duties, as assigned.
-Oversee billing and other accounting functions for Aisling general contractor.
-Become a valuable and trusted source of information for investment, asset management, development, and construction teams.
Requirements:
-A passion for excellence in customer service delivery.
-Completion of a Bachelors (or Masters) degree in Business and/or Accounting.
-CPA or CPA candidate required.
-4-7 years overall experience.
-Proven leadership skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
-Thorough knowledge & experience in preparing and analyzing financial statements, completing bank reconciliations, creating journal entries, and completing other account reconciliations.
-Experience in construction and development accounting with an emphasis on job cost accounting.
-Preferably Sage (Timberline) experience with above-average Excel skills.
